ACE: Accelerating Connections to Employment
One of the fastest growing industries in the nation is Healthcare. With the increasing number of adults entering into retirement opportunities continue to grow. As a trained professional you could find employment in nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, assisted living residences or private duty nursing with the potential to earn from $11.00 to $14.00 an hour. If you have the desire to working in the healthcare industry, and want to get your start by training to be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant, then Accelerating Connection to Employment (ACE) is one of the places you can get that start! The next ACE CNA/GNA Training Program begins in September!
Accelerating Connections to Employment (ACE) is grant-funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, with support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation that offers uniquely enhanced vocational training that includes Geriatric Nursing Assistant training as well. There are additional support services for the ACE Student included as well:
- academic support
- computer basics
- communication skills for the workplace
- job placement support
- ongoing career navigation
This is a 12-week training program that requires a full time commitment. Classes are every day, all day: Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are no evening or weekend classes. Because this is a pilot program, after having shown their eligibility, the applicants will be awarded the tuition assistance by a lottery system.
To get more information and to apply for this exciting opportunity attend one of the next ACE Information Sessions. Mandatory Info Sessions are held every Friday starting at 10 am, SHARP. No one will be admitted after 10 am. The Info Session will take 2 hours.

Montgomery County Workforce Data Available
The Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) recently held a retreat to update its Strategic Plan. It commissioned Dr. Stephen Fuller, Dwight Schar Faculty Chair and University Professor and Director, Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University to provide workforce and occupational data to guide the discussion. Dr. Fuller’s report is avalable online, in addition to the presentation he made during the retreat.
The data provided by Dr. Fuller reaffirmed that the WIB was working with key industries for the County as called for in its Strategic Plan. The WIB’s three targeted industries are health, professional and technical services ad food service/hospitality.
